Custom Putter
Ongoing
As someone who loves golf and machining, there was a gigantic attraction to building my own putter head. This is an ongoing project that I have been working on, taking my time with each step in the process.
I started with research on different aspects of a putter: toe flow, offset, neck, loft, lie. After deciding on starting points, I got into the CAD and 3D printing for different variations, finalized a first prototype. From there I worked on dialing in the CAM for the first prototype, taking me 3 versions to get it to where I wanted. Some of the changes I made were optimizing machining time, eliminating machining lines, and experimenting with step down and tool type for the back side slope.
Now I am working on different face designs, chopping the base with a band saw and using custom fly cutter setups on an angled vice. You can see my first iteration below.
I can't wait to weld on the hosel and test out my self made putter once the snow melts!
