The problem that I am trying to address is what Ngozi Okidegbe looked at in her research at Boston University. I am looking at how race plays a factor in machine learning making an inherently racist algorithm when applied to mass data from Los Angeles’ crime reports since 2020. This will help the government in their policies about the courts using machine learning and algorithms in their courts to make ‘more informed’ decisions. So I will not be running an algorithm to help people, but rather an algorithm to show how it can easily emphasize things like discrimination within a system.
